Blog 5 - Reflection on group project

In this research project, I understand that communication is very important within the team itself. Good interpersonal relationship between the group members enables the members to communicate effectively and hence working efficiently. On top of that working in a team would also need qualities such as responsibilities, disciplines, empathy and corporations. Effective report writing is one of the best ways of influencing and persuading the right people. With a well-written report, it would help to achieve desired results and create maximum impact on the audience.

During this project, time constraint was the main problem. A proper project together with a survey had to be done within a month hence schedules were tight. In addition to the time constraint, as the three of us have different timetables and amount of workloads, meeting up for discussion was hence much harder to plan. Nevertheless, our group was still able to keep up with the schedules given and complete the task in appropriate time. Our group was able to work closely and had constant communications on online messenger and after class.

With the coming oral presentation, I look forward to work with my team members again and to produce a well polished presentation. I would also like to ensure that I would be able to deliver my message in a clear and concise manner.

Hi Chiew Yen,

I too felt that the main problem was time. The number of meetings and drafts and survey we had to produce during such a short period of time was really taxing even stressful for those who have other projects or tests on hand. Nevertheless most of us was able to successfully complete our reports. That is likely due to the positive team working experience, where everyone does their part and do it well.

Hi Chiew Yan,

I personally find that time constraint is indeed a main problem faced by all groups not only your groups. Managing the time well and taking initiative among all the group members is very crucial too. Hence, extremely driven individuals is indeed an important factor to get projects on-going, especially under such a tight schedule where everyone is so busy off their mid-term exams and other assignments in hand. On top of that, all of your team mates have proven effective communication throughout the duration of about one month or so.

Holding meetings online more often, can be helps to keep in touch with each and everyone in the project team the latest event of the project. Catching up with each other, finding out how they are doing is very important indeed. For example, in my case, I have to find out if my team mates is having problem to take out some time to finish certain parts of the project. If he can’t have the luxury of time, I can lend a helping hand too.

The kind of team spirit shown by your project group is indeed a plus. Helping one another when there’s trouble is a great success to most of the projects faced in the near future as well.

Cheers,
Wendy

Hi Chiew Yen,

I agree with you that the tight schedule of the project caused everyone to be very stressed. Thus, communication within the group is important as it allows us to assign tasks better and to complete them in a ashorter amount of time.

The various meetings that we had to hold allow me to learn skills specific to group dynamics, while individual skills concerning report writing were useful. All of these are very applicable to any working environment in the future.

Friendships was one of the important things I've picked up during the course of this project, and it is indeed worth the sweat and the tears.

Hi Chiew Yen!

Time constraint also poses a great challenge to my group. The survey data has to be gathered within a week and the rest of the parts of the report had to be completed and polished in a time span of a few weeks. Without good communication among the group mates, doing the project will definitely be tougher. I am glad that we all managed to complete the project in time for submission despite the tight schedule.

The oral presentation is the next project coming up and hopefully we will be able to apply the skills learnt when doing this report and also improve on our weaknesses.

Hi Chiew Yan,

Deadlines can be crippling especially when suddenly there seems to be endless corrections and alterations to make.

In times of trouble, effective communication can serve to steer a team out of harm's way. By having clear and concise instructions, work can be allocated and produced without the need for correction. Such would save much time and enable the group to direct their attention to other details.

Cheers,
nic

Hi Chiew Yen, I'm glad that despite the tight schedule and time constraint, your group managed to pull it off I guess mainly due to effective communication. Thanks for all your hard work!

I believe you mean "co-operation" rather than "corporation" :-)
